Health and Wellness Is Your Home a Healthy Home?
It’s alarming but true-scientists and doctors have discovered that there is a connection between our health and the use of common everyday household chemicals. If yours is the typical home, you probably use dozens of cleaning and personal care products, purchased in the local grocery store; which contain chemical ingredients that could be harmful to your health and the health of your loved ones.
Since, the end of World War II there has been a dramatic rise in the number man-made chemicals we use in our homes. The typical hoe now contains over sixty three hazardous products that together contain hundreds of different chemicals. At the same time there has been an equally dramatic rise in the incidence of certain chronic health problems. Research indicates that it is more than coincidence that the dramatic rise in these various diseases has coincided with the increased use of hazardous, man-made chemicals in the home. The formost of these is Formaldahyde used in cleaning products, detergents, personal care products and cosmetics. It affects our children with asthma, Attention Deficit Disorder, Sensory Integration Disorder, Autism just to name a few. We must clean up our act , recyling, using non toxic household and personal care products, using energy efficient appliances, bulbs, cars and seek better ways to produce energy such as wind, water and solar. By composting food and vegitation waste such as leaves, clipping etc. Immediatley we must reduce energy usage with bathroom fixtures that use less water. Use microfiber clothes, rags, and the new shamees to clean and spills. Reduce the use of plastic containers and plastic bags as much as possible. Store in glass or glass with plastic lids. Chemicals from plastics seep into the food in the containers. Use a travel mug instead of styrofoam cups. When I heard Emeril say to start a new tradition by telling guests for the holidays that vegetable peels and scraps will be composted this year and the carcas will be made into soup or broth. I thought so what is new our grandparents did it. So start a new tradition of recyling, with your family. Kids would love to build a compost bin with dad. They would be overjoyed when you get the shipment of worms to help work the bin. And then you could use the composted soil in a vegetable garden next year. It is sad that the disorders mentioned above mostly effect the children. Children are our future let us learn together to save this earth for them. It is their future.
